Passengers hurt in turbulence on Dublin bound flight
One passenger was taken to hospital and several others injured after a transatlantic flight hit severe turbulence before landing in Ireland.
United Airlines said the person needing hospital treatment on touchdown has since been released while seven others sustained minor injuries during the mid-air incident today.
The carrier has launched an internal investigation.
There were 129 passengers and eight crew on the Boeing 757 flight from New York to Dublin when it ran into difficulties during its descent.
A spokeswoman for United Airlines said the seatbelt sign was illuminated during the “severe turbulence” on flight UA23.
The aircraft later landed safely at Dublin Airport, where emergency fire crew and ambulance paramedics were scrambled to the runway.
“One customer was taken to hospital to receive medical attention and has since been discharged,” said the spokeswoman.
“Seven other customers sustained minor injuries and were released by medical services.”
She added: “Our customer service team in Dublin is supporting our customers.
“Safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority, and we are conducting a review into what happened.”
A spokeswoman for Dublin Airport Authority confirmed emergency services were put on standby and that the plane landed safely.
