Labour seeks High Court probe into Anglo Irish Bank

The Labour Party is calling for the appointment of a High Court inspector to investigate the activities of Anglo Irish Bank.

The Labour Party is calling for the appointment of a High Court inspector to investigate the activities of Anglo Irish Bank.

The call follows last night's revelation that Irish Life & Permanent placed a multi-billion euro deposit with its rival lender just hours before the end of Anglo's financial year last September.

The deposit was made just hours after the Government announced its wide-ranging bank guarantee.

Labour's finance spokesperson, Joan Burton, says the revelation raises grave suspicions about what exactly was going on at Anglo Irish Bank last year and whether the Financial Regulator was aware of the activities.
