Several people were shot in an Atlanta court today.

Early reports said Judge Roland Barnes was killed and two deputies and a court reporter were shot and injured.

The extents of their injuries were not immediately known.

District attorney’s spokesman Erick Friedly confirmed the shootings.

Witnesses said the suspect, named as Brian Nichols, 34, carjacked a car and authorities were searching for several vehicles reported stolen in the area.

Nichols was on trial for rape.

The shooting started on the eighth floor of the courthouse shortly after 9am, Friedly said.

Grady Memorial Hospital reported that two deputies were being treated at the hospital.

“I saw one person on the street that they were performing CPR on,” said court reporter Amy McKee.
