Teenager stabbed to death in refugee centre

A teenager was stabbed to death today during a row at a refugee centre, gardaí said.

A teenager was stabbed to death today during a row at a refugee centre, gardaí said.

Another teenager was arrested over the killing of the 17-year-old man during the afternoon at the hostel in Limerick city centre.

The victim was taken from the Sarsfield Street premises at around 2.15pm to Mid-West Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí said both men were non-nationals staying at a health board-run refugee centre.

The scene has been sealed off and preserved for a forensic examination by Garda technical experts.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and taken to Henry Street garda station.

He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A post mortem examination will be carried out on the victim’s remains tomorrow at Mid-West Regional Hospital.
