Botha losing sleep ahead of Pumas clash

South Africa lock Bakkies Botha is ready to meet renowned Argentina aggression head on in Sunday's World Cup semi-final at Stade de France.

Botha, one of rugby's most physically intimidating players, admits he is so excited by the prospect that he is struggling to sleep at night.

South Africa and Argentina are both unbeaten heading into the clash, with their heavyweight forwards set for a punishing battle that will undoubtedly decide the contest.

Botha said: "I love the Argentina style. They like to play in the forwards.

"We know they are a passionate squad and they will come out very aggressive, and that's my game. I love it.

"I am actually like a young boy. I can't sleep at night because I am looking forward to the weekend so much.

"Everyone knows that we must turn it up a notch higher this weekend, and we know if we lose it is all gone - the four-year dream is all gone - and I think we will definitely be at our best.

"The players want that cup, and to get that cup we must win on Sunday.

"I am going to prepare like it is the last Springbok game of my life."

South Africa will go into the game fully aware of the threat posed by Pumas fly-half Juan Martin Hernandez.

The Stade Francais star, among five nominees for the International Rugby Board player of the year award, has played a major role in guiding Argentina through a memorable World Cup campaign that includes victories over France and Ireland.

Springboks fly-half Butch James said: "I think he is the best player in the world at the moment.

"I am not too sure if fly-half is his position but he is by far the best rugby player in terms of skills and everything that goes with it.

"I think that with a bit of space he would be better at full-back.

"He has got good hands, he has got a big boot, he can step, he has got speed - he's got everything."

James though, is backing the Springboks' renowned defensive organisation to shackle Hernandez, adding: "I don't think it will be too hard.

"I've got the incredible Schalk Burger on my inside, so he should be helping me a bit, and Francois Steyn outside, so I'm not too worried about him.

"We will be able to handle him."

South Africa were given a quarter-final fright by Fiji in Marseille last Sunday.

The Fijians clawed their way back from 14 points drift, drawing level at 20-20 before South Africa turned the screw up front and scored 17 unanswered points to stay on track for a first world title since 1995.

And James does not believe there will be much deviation from that traditional Springboks game this weekend.

He added: "We haven't played much high-risk rugby while we have been here, so I don't think you will see it from us.

"We will be sticking to the way that we play. As long as we win, I don't care what the spectators think.

"You don't really need the perfect game, but it would be handy for it to come in a semi-final."
