The ISEQ index of Irish shares ended the day in negative territory this evening down 62 points to 4,544.67 at market close.
All the financial heavyweights suffered with Anglo Irish Bank leading the way plummeting 35c to €6. Bank of Ireland wasn't too far behind, down 20c to €5.88 with Irish Life and Permanent dropping 10c off its share price to €5.95. AIB fared slightly better losing 7c to end the day on €8.58.
Within the construction sector only Kingspan managed to buck the negative trend gaining a modest 5c to €6.82. However, Grafton fell 5c to €4.17 with McInerney down 1c to 37c per share.
Elsewhere Paddy Power bookmakers suffered the biggest loss, closing 61c down at €16.19 per share this evening.
