Charlie Mitten, one of the stars of United's 1948 FA Cup winning side, has died at the age of 80 following a lengthy illness.

Charlie Mitten, one of the stars of United's 1948 FA Cup winning side, has died at the age of 80 following a lengthy illness.

Along with Jimmy Delaney, Stan Pearson, Jack Rowley and Johnny Morris, Mitten was one of Matt Busby’s "famous five" forwards in Manchester United’s great post-war team and played 221 times for United between 1939 and 1950, scoring 82 goals.

He was United's left-winger in the 1948 FA Cup final with Blackpool, which United won 4-2, and the following season scored 23 goals in League and Cup.
