The Irish Stock Exchange endured a sluggish morning of trading today as the ISEQ index of Irish shares inched down 6.02 points to 2,981.16.

The Irish Stock Exchange endured a sluggish morning of trading today as the ISEQ index of Irish shares inched down 6.02 points to 2,981.16.

The financials all lost ground. Irish Life & Permanent was the biggest faller, sliding 14c to €4.51. Bank of Ireland (down 9c to €1.78) and Allied Irish Banks (down 8c to €1.86) both lost ground.

The construction sector enjoyed a positive day. CRH was the biggest gainer, climbing 32c to €17.69. Kingspan enjoyed a 17c boost to €5.56.

DCC (up 28c to €19.68) and Tullow Oil (up 10c to €13.95) were the other significant rises of the day.

Some heavy losses occurred elsewhere however. Icon lost €1.20 to €15.10. Paddy Power fell 29c to €24.33 and Dragon Oil lost 14c to €4.79.
