Investigators were working today to identify a pair of suicide bombers who attacked two luxury hotels in Indonesia’s capital, killing eight people and injuring 50 others.

Health officials confirmed that at least four of the dead were foreigners.

Suspicions were growing that the blasts in Jakarta were masterminded by Noordin Top, a Malaysian who heads a breakaway faction of the south-east Asian militant network Jemaah Islamiyah.

Nasir Abbas, a former Jemaah Islamiyah leader-turned-police informant who has worked with police on investigations into Indonesia’s terrorist attacks, said: “I’m 200% sure this was his work.”

Suicide bombers posing as guests attacked the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta yesterday.

A police investigator said today that Noordin was the most likely suspect.
