Gardaí are investigating an aggravated burglary at a house in the Belfry area of Citywest in Dublin, at around 7.50am this morning.

Gardaí are investigating an aggravated burglary at a house in the Belfry area of Citywest in Dublin, at around 7.50am this morning.

Five men, armed with knives, gained entry to the house.

They then threatened and assaulted the sole occupant of the house, a 33-year-old woman. She did not require medical assistance.

A substantial amount of cash was taken during the burglary. The men fled the scene in a car taken from the house. The car was later recovered in the Glenshane area, Tallaght and has been preserved for technical examination.

In a follow up search a 17-year-old male was arrested in connection with the investigation.

He is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Investigations are ongoing.
