Directors: Nathan Greno/Byron Howard
Cast: (Voices) Mandy Moore, Donna Murphy, Zachary Levi
Another Disney animation with the classic character with the long, long, long hair, Rapunzel (Moore), to the fore, but don’t expect a rendering of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy story.
This one paints our heroine as a sparky teenager – pitched as the film clearly is at young female teens – and throws in a smattering of tunes, most of which are Disney Lite.
Rapunzel is locked in her tower by the evil ‘Mother’ (Murphy) and there appears the dashing – if bland – bandit Flynn Ryder (Levi) who has been passing by and decides to climb in … to be taken hostage by the young lady.
There follows a sort of adventure-filled road trip – with lots of singing – that makes for a cute, entertaining, colourful, well-drawn but nevertheless bland Disney yarn that just about staggers into the plus category.
