Four men have been arrested following attempts to blow up a house in Little Island, Cork, in the early hours of the morning.

They range in age from their late teens to early twenties and reports suggest they have paramilitary links.

The men were arrested when a van filled with petrol was set alight at a house in Little Island just after midnight.

The van exploded and burst into flames.

A number of houses in the area were evacuated as fire crews from Cork city and Cobh dealt with the blaze.

Nobody was injured and gardaí are trying to establish a motive for the attack.
