The Lord Mayor of Dublin is today appealing to striking taxi drivers to call off protests that have been causing severe traffic disruption in the city centre.

Around 100 taxi drivers are demonstrating on O'Connell Street for the second day running in protest at the number of licences being issued in the industry.

They're vowing to continue their action until the Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey agrees to meet them.

Lord Mayor Emer Costello says innocent members of the public are suffering the most because of the protests and the drivers should end their action for the good of the city.
