George W Bush has shaken hands with Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams during their first meeting in Washington.

George W Bush has shaken hands with Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams during their first meeting in Washington.

The new US President also met other key figures in the Northern peace process, including the Taoiseach and Northern First Minister David Trimble.

The meeting came ahead of a White House reception for St Patrick's Day.
