Maxol is to create 50 new jobs in the West of Ireland following an investment of €2m.

The firm is revamping some of its current locations in Westport and Castlebar in Co Mayo.

The investment in Castlebar has led to the creation of an additional 20 jobs in the areas of retail supervisors, sales assistants and deli staff.

The redevelopment of Maxol in Westport will see the creation of 30 jobs and the new-look site will open in June.

There is more good news today on the economic front with almost 47,000 more people in work here, since the start of the year.

The latest Quarterly National Household Survey from the CSO shows total employment has increased by 2.4% in the first quarter of 2016.

The strongest growth was reported in the construction, accommodation and transport sectors.
