A woman is expected to appear in court after the discovery of the skeletal remains of up to three children inside a Glasgow flat.

The 24-year-old woman was arrested this morning after the discovery of remains at an address in Govan - the district Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is a native of.

Police confirm the remains of one child have been found, and forensic tests are being carried out to establish whether the remains of two more children are inside.

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: "A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal in connection with the discovery of a child's remains. Investigations are continuing into other matters at the moment."

Officers discovered the bones at the tenement building yesterday evening. Strathclyde Police say the woman has been arrested and detained in police custody.

Inquiries are continuing into the incident and forensic scientists are at the tenement building.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the remains.

The woman is expected to appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.
