Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after convicted drug dealer John Gilligan was shot in West Dublin last night.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after convicted drug dealer John Gilligan was shot in West Dublin last night.

It is believed he was shot a number of times at his brother's house in Greensfort Crescent in Clondalkin at around 7pm yesterday evening while attending a family gathering.

He was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where the 61-year-old is expected to make a full recovery.

A garda manhunt is underway for two men believed to be involved in the shooting who fled the scene in a car.
