A Waterford woman has been found not guilty of falsifying the result of a county GAA draw ticket at the direction of the Judge.
57-year-old Bridget Clancy of Sheskin, Stradbally, Co Waterford, and former treasurer of the county's Western GAA Board, had pleaded not guilty to charges of forging a Déise Development Draw ticket on November 16 1998, and thereby obtaining a cheque for £5,000 made payable to her husband Dick Clancy.
Judge Kevin Hough said the State's case was based on circumstantial evidence, and because there were two possible hypotheses, he had to direct the jury to find Mrs Clancy not guilty.
Afterwards, the former GAA official said she was happy with the result and very relieved.
