Rain team dream of Ascot glory

Vengeance Of Rain, Hong Kong’s winner of the Dubai Sheema Classic, is being considered for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot this summer.

A decisive winner of the richly-endowed Group One at the weekend, the seven-year-old will firstly be primed for this month’s Audemars Piguet QEII Cup at Sha Tin.

Owner Raymond Gianco Chow Hon Man said: “We went to Dubai believing he could run well. It’s all down to the trainer (David Ferraris), really.

“David was very convincing in getting us to travel. He has been proven right with this horse so many times now and has given us six Group One wins and the best times of our lives.

“We were very confident beforehand and I think that was his best ever performance.

“The overhead camera angle of the finish was great – you could see that once Anthony (Delpech, jockey) pushed the button on him, he settled the race there and then.

“Knowing now that we can travel him and beat the best, we would like to try it again and the King George could enter calculations – as long as he is giving us the same feeling.”

Delpech added: “If he goes to England for the King George, it would also suit him.

“In Europe, they like to kick on a bit further out than we do here and the stiffer track like Ascot would also be in his favour.”
