Frontline public sector workers consider action if pay cuts remain on Croke Park table
The executive committee of the 24/7 Frontline Services Alliance is to meet today, to consider how to proceed if cuts in basic pay, premiums or allowances are not taken off the table at dicussions on the Croke Park extension.
It follows a meeting yesterday by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), after which general secretary Liam Doran reaffirmed the organisation's commitment to protect its members' current income from further cuts.
He said: "There can be no agreement, acceptable to the INMO, which seeks to impose cuts, or reductions, in existing pay rates, premium pay rates and allowances which form the total income of members arising from their obligation to work 24/7, 365 days a year."
In a statement, the INMO said it shared the concerns of the Garda representative groups the GRA and the AGSI, who have pulled out of the Croke Park negotiations over the issue of cuts to basic pay and overtime, and changes to work practices.
The INMO added it believed the current approach of the Government, through its officials, "is provocative, unrealistic and primarily targeted at the income of frontline public servants who have a 24/7 roster".
The executive council of the INMO is to meet again at "short notice" to decide whether to continue its engagement in the talks.
