A teenage girl is among three people being detained by gardaí investigating organised crime in the Midlands.

A teenage girl is among three people being detained by gardaí investigating organised crime in the Midlands.

Planned searches were carried out at a number of houses in the Clara and Tullamore areas yesterday morning.

During the operation, the teenager and a 20-year-old woman were arrested, as well as a 23-year-old man.

They are being held at Portlaoise, Tullamore and Birr garda stations, under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

This allows for a maximum detention period of up to seven days.
