Survey reveals pubs not displaying prices

A survey by Fine Gael has revealed widespread breaches of the law on price displays in pubs, according to the party's Enterprise, Trade & Employment Spokesman, Phil Hogan TD.

The survey was undertaken following complaints to the party's website www.ripoff.ie about the lack of price displays.

"Of the 50 pubs randomly selected around the country that we surveyed we found that 17 (34%) had failed to display the statutory '16 item' list of prices for the most popular drinks.

"If this figure is replicated across all public houses, it means that over 2,000 pubs could be in breach of their statutory obligations," said Deputy Hogan.

"This survey highlights the failure of the Tánaiste to grasp the nettle of rip-off Ireland. Last week she set up yet another committee to advise on olicy. It is clear now that there is no-one in Government with the slightest clue of what the public is enduring by way of high prices."
