INO meets HSE to discuss maternity hospital concerns

The Irish Nurses Organisation is meeting officials from the HSE today to discuss the dispute regarding staff levels at the new Cork University Maternity Hospital.

The Irish Nurses Organisation is meeting officials from the HSE today to discuss the dispute regarding staff levels at the new Cork University Maternity Hospital.

The hospital is due to open this Saturday, but the INO says it is concerned that the facility will not employ the number of trained midwives recommended by experts.

Earlier this week, the Labour Court said the nurses should co-operate with the opening of the new facility and should accept the inclusion of trainee midwives in the overall staff figure.

The INO says it will ballot its members on the recommendations after today's talks with the HSE.
