PAC hears HSE threatened to withdraw funding to CRC if board stayed on

It is been confirmed that the board of the Central Remedial Clinic was ordered to resign last December by the Health Service Executive or face cuts in funding.

The clinic's financing and pay rates are again being discussed at the Public Accounts Committee today.

A report from an interim administrator showed serious governance issues at the CRC, including over-payments to former CEO Paul Kiely and the payment of salaries in a way designed to avoid public sector pay cuts.

Former chairman of the CRC Hamilton Goulding claims the HSE threatened to withdraw funding.

"The board was effectively dismissed at a few hours notice at a meeting in HSE headquarters on the 13th of December last."

"The then-chairman was informed that unless all the board resigned forthwith, HSE funding would be withdrawn from the clinic," said Goulding,

"The resignations were tendered directly because the board's position was untenable. It’s primary concern being not to allow any impediment to continued funding by the HSE of the CRC, which would effectively shut down the clinic," he added.
