Man, 27, arrested in connection with man burned alive

Gardaí have arrested a 27-year-old Irishman in connection with the discovery of a burned body in the Phoenix Park.

The body of a man was found near Wellington Road, Phoenix Park, Dublin, on Friday. He was violently beaten before being set alight in a sleeping bag.

Detectives have identified the victim, who is also an Irish national and believed to be in his 40s. He was violently beaten before being burnt alive in a sleeping bag.

Gardaí say they have arrested a man today, who is being held at Finglas Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A murder inquiry was launched when a post-mortem examination revealed that the homeless man was still alive, but probably beaten unconscious, when he was set on fire.
