The HSE is to investigate why no ambulance was available to take an elderly Co Mayo woman, who suffered a stroke, to hospital.

The HSE is to investigate why no ambulance was available to take an elderly Co Mayo woman, who suffered a stroke, to hospital.

A relative of the woman, who made an emergency call, was asked to drive the patient to the Accident and Emergency at Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, fifteen kilometres away.

The woman in her 80s later died later in hospital.
