DUP MP pours cold water on St Andrew’s proposals

A leading Democratic Unionist Party MP has said he doubts that power-sharing government will be restored in the North by the Irish-British target of March next year.

A leading Democratic Unionist Party MP has said he doubts that power-sharing government will be restored in the North by the Irish-British target of March next year.

The remarks by Nigel Dodds are being interpreted as further evidence of a lack of support within the DUP for the St Andrew's proposals put forward following talks in Scotland last month.

The proposals require the DUP to commit itself to sharing power with republicans if Sinn Féin endorses the PSNI.

However, Mr Dodds already poured cold water on the deal earlier this week when he said that unionists would need time to secure confidence in the situation even after Sinn Féin backs the police.
