Security measures at Limerick's Garda Divisional Headquarters are being reviewed after a teenager managed to escape from custody last Friday evening.

Security measures at Limerick's Garda Divisional Headquarters are being reviewed after a teenager managed to escape from custody last Friday evening.

The 19-year-old fled from the city's Henry Street garda station after being left alone in an interview room used by solicitors wishing to speak privately with their clients.

The man, who is from the southside of the city, was due to be charged with criminal damage to property on the Dublin Road following an incident earlier in the day.

He apparently absconded when his solicitor left the room to use the toilet.

The teenager remains at large, but the Gardaí say they are confident he will be re-arrested and charged with escaping from lawful custody.
