A man has appeared in court charged in connection with the death of Jason Saunders who was found unconscious on a street in Dublin two days ago.

Paul Brannigan of Fassaugh Avenue is accused of using a golf club to assault the 21-year-old in Cabra.

A passerby found Jason Saunders lying on Fassaugh Avenue in Cabra at around 7.40am on the morning after St Patrick's Day.

He died from his injuries less than an hour later.

22-year-old Paul Brannigan, was brought to court today charged with assault causing harm and using a golf club during a fight.

He wore a sling on his left arm and scanned the public gallery while his case was being heard.

Gardaí said further more serious charges could be brought against Brannigan and objected to bail on a number of grounds.

Among them is an allegation he approached two shop workers on Fassaugh Avenue about some CCTV footage shortly after the alleged assault.

Judge Patricia McNamara refused bail and remanded Brannigan in custody to appear in court again next week.

His solicitor pointed out that his client has a broken arm and Judge McNamara ordered for him to be provided with medical attention while in custody.
