Gardaí have identified the mother of the baby found dead in a disused shed in Co Meath last week.

The infant's remains were discovered in Kildalkey nine days ago by local builders sheltering from the rain.

Gardaí immediately launched an appeal for the mother to come forward, saying they feared for her well-being.

They said today that she had since been identified and was now in the care of social workers.
