Increased air services boosted UK visitor numbers to the Spanish island of Majorca last year, it was revealed today.
The island, long a favourite with British holidaymakers, attracted 2.5 million UK visitors in 2003 – 7% up on the 2002 total.
A number of airlines began UK-Majorca services for the first time last year, while others increased frequency.
UK numbers are expcted to increase again this year, with low-fare airline easyJet starting daily flights between Newcastle and Palma in Majorca in May.
Also, travel giant Thomson will start Coventry-Palma flights in April.
In all, Majorca received around nine million visitors in 2003 – a 7.1% increase on the 2002 total.
