Aer Lingus is planning to introduce charges for checked in baggage on short haul flights.

“For customers with check-in baggage, we’ll be charging a modest fee of €4 per bag when booked online,” Aer Lingus spokesman Enda Corneille said.

“We're working very hard to make the implementation of this very smooth and very easy for the customer on the website.

“It will be coming into effect for bookings made after August 8.”

The airline has also announced online seat selection, ahead of its planned part-privatisation next month. From December, passengers will also be able to avail of online check-in.
