An asylum seeker has been awarded an arrears payment of almost €12,000 following the failure by the HSE to implement a successful Social Welfare Appeal.

In a report published by her office, the Ombudsman criticised the HSE for not providing a basic income for the asylym seeker and her two daughters.

Emily O'Reilly also found that the HSE had no reason not to implement the results of the appeal and that their failure caused significant adverse consequences for the family over an extended period.
