Gardaí and a vet are trying to clear animals from the M9 in Kildare after they were involved in a collision.

There are significant delays this morning for motorists there after a trailer towing livestock was hit by another truck this morning.

The road has had to be closed completely northbound on the M9 at the Athy turn-off or J3.

Gardaí are at the scene, clearing livestock and debris from the road.

People who are stuck at the scene of the accident have been delayed for almost two hours, but if you follow diversions, you should expect delays of up to 30 mins.

Diversions are via the Old Dublin Rd (R448).

Nobody was injured in the incident and Gardaí are hoping to reopen the road by 9am.
