Two men have been stabbed in one of two rows in Co. Westmeath.

The first fight broke out outside of a garage on the Moate Road just outside of Athlone at 4pm.

A number of men were involved and innocent motorists were also caught up in the fracas.

No one was injured but private cars were damaged.

A few minutes later there was another fracas in Farnagh in Moate, during which two men suffered stab wounds.

They have been taken to Tullamore hospital with what have been described as serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí believe it is part of an on-going feud between members of the Travelling Community.
