Ireland's cricketers finished day two of their opening Intercontinental Cup match in a strong position against Kenya in Eglinton.

Resuming on 323 for seven after a rain-affected first day at Woodvale Road, the defending champions added 81 runs today – thanks largely to 44 from 50 balls from Regan West.

David Obuya, batting at number three, struck 64 before becoming the first of two victims for West as Kenya slumped to 115 for four in response.

Collins Obuya was dismissed shortly afterwards but the visitors then steadied the ship with a 108-run sixth-wicket partnership between Maurice Ouma (52) and Jimmy Kamande.

Kamande was 65 not out, with Thomas Odoyo on five, when rain brought a premature end to the day’s play with the Kenyans 239 for six – 165 runs adrift of Ireland’s first-innings score of 404.
