Gardai are investigating the discovery of a suspected pipe bomb inside the perimeter fence of Gormanstown military camp in Co Meath.

Gardai are investigating the discovery of a suspected pipe bomb inside the perimeter fence of Gormanstown military camp in Co Meath.

A soldier at the camp spotted the device adjacent to the perimeter road yesterday afternoon.

An Irish Army spokesman said the object appeared to have all the components of a pipe bomb and contained a powdery substance.

He said bomb disposal experts will examine the device thoroughly before the security implications of the find are assessed.
