Gosden launches two-pronged Oaks attack

John Gosden is hoping his two contenders can give a good account of themselves in the rearranged Darley Yorkshire Oaks at Newmarket tomorrow.

John Gosden is hoping his two contenders can give a good account of themselves in the rearranged Darley Yorkshire Oaks at Newmarket tomorrow.

The trainer is represented by Ribblesdale Stakes heroine Michita, as well as Dar Re Mi, an impressive winner at Deauville last week.

Gosden admits the ground should suit Michita much better than it would have at York if the meeting had gone ahead and thinks she should make her presence felt.

“Michita has been in good form since Royal Ascot and the ground should be ideal for her at Newmarket,” said Gosden.

“Dar Re Mi handles most ground and probably would have been fine at York as she won on soft ground at Deauville last time.

“She has come out of the race in good shape but obviously I think Passage Of Time and Lush Lushes set the standard on form.

“However, it is only a six-horse field so you want to have a look at it don’t you?”

Jim Bolger will be hoping Lush Lashes can gain some compensation after finishing a luckless second in the Nassau Stakes last time, while Passage Of Time looks to give Henry Cecil a first Group One win of the campaign.

Allegretto, second to Peeping Fawn in this race 12 months ago, lines up once again and the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained Cape Amber completes the line-up.
