Emergency workers had to save several people in Northern Ireland last night after flooding hit hundreds of homes.

Emergency crews rushed to flooded areas to rescue pensioners and disabled people from their property.

The worst flooding occurred in Glengormley, Carrickfergus and Whitehead.

Representatives from the fire service and police said they were trying to restore order in the areas in as short a time as they could.

Heavy rainfall and lightning strikes made rescue attempts even more difficult during the flooding.
