Two Irish insurance salesmen have died in a drowning accident while on a trip to Morocco.
Both men - who have still to be named - had been attending a conference in the western city of Agadir, and were employees of Galway-based Acorn Life Insurance, who worked in an office in Moynulty, Co Meath.
They were part of a group of about 150 employees attending the conference.
In a statement the company said: ‘‘We have been reliably informed of the tragic drowning at Agadir Morocco of two of our sales associates.’’
‘‘These two men, both from Co Meath, were part of a group participating in a sales convention organised by Acorn Life.
‘‘Our management are endeavouring to discover more details and are in touch with the police in Agadir and also at home in Ireland.
‘‘At this very sad time, our thought and prayers are with the men’s families but we are not able to give any further details until all the members of the family have been informed.’’
A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said it was attempting to establish the circumstances behind the deaths and was in contact with the British Consul in Morocco.
