Gardaí are appealing to the driver of a dark-coloured SUV jeep to come forward following a fatal car crash on the Cavan by-pass.

A 48-year-old woman was killed when the car she was driving collided with another car about two miles north of Cavan at 8.45am yesterday morning.

The driver of the second car and her passenger were seriously injured in the crash and were rushed to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.

Gardaí believe that the SUV, which was possibly driven by a woman, was at the scene of the crash immediately prior to or at the time of the collision.

They say that person may have vital information in relation to the crash and are appealing to them to contact Gardaí at Cavan.
