A 50-bed private hospital, which would provide radiotherapy treatment for cancer sufferers, is being proposed for Co Donegal.

Private healthcare consortium Northwest Healthcare is planning to build the €60m facility close to Letterkenny General Hospital.

The hospital will include facilities for renal dialysis, surgery, X-ray, CT, MRI and Pet scanners.

It will also have a radiotherapy service, which could end the long journeys that cancer patients in Donegal have to make to Dublin for treatment.
