Leicester City have denied reports that manager Micky Adams is on the verge of quitting the troubled Barclaycard Premiership club.
Adams is said to be appalled that last week’s mid-season break to La Manga resulted in three of his players being held in a Spanish prison.
Paul Dickov, Frank Sinclair and Keith Gillespie remain in custody while a judge investigates an alleged assault on three women.
Leicester will send a legal team out to Spain tomorrow in a bid to speed up the process and get the players released.
But chief operating officer Paul Mace insisted he was unaware of any suggestions that Adams was poised to walk away.
And he told BBC Radio Five Live’s Sportsweek: “I have been in regular contact with Micky for the last six days and it has been a very very difficult time for Micky.
“He likes to be on the training ground with the players and that has been denied him for four days.
“Sometimes in the face of adversity comes great strength. It’s a very difficult time for all of us but we need to get through it.”
And Mace went on to praise Adams’ work in lifting the Foxes back into the Premiership and keeping them in with a chance of survival.
He added: “Micky has done a fantastic job for this football club and he is probably the single biggest reason we are playing Premiership football this season.
“Everybody to a man is fully committed behind Micky.”
Mace said Leicester would launch a full internal investigation into the events in La Manga and added that the club now regretted what was supposed to be a relaxing mid-season break.
He added: “With hindsight obviously it was an incorrect choice but at the time we wanted to give our players the best possible preparations and prepare for the Premiership run-in.
“Obviously it hasn’t turned out like that.”
