Gardaí are continuing to question two men in their 20s after an armed raid on a bookmakers in Co Cork yesterday.

Gardaí are continuing to question two men in their 20s after an armed raid on a bookmakers in Co Cork yesterday.

Masked raiders, armed with handguns, made off with €5,000 after they held up the premises in Tower, near Blarney at 5.30pm yesterday evening, before making their getaway in a Volkswagen Golf.

It was abandoned a short distance away at Cannon's Cross.

Two men were pursued through fields by gardaí who apprehended them and recovered cash. The officers did not find any handguns.

The two men are being questioned at Gurranabraher and Mayfield Garda stations.
