Gilmore to meet TalkTalk management

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore is to travel to Waterford this afternoon to meet with workers and management at TalkTalk to discuss the company's closure.

The firm, which provides phone and broadband services, announced on Wednesday that it was to cease operations in the city with the loss of 575 jobs.

Mr Gilmore said he hopes management will consider the Government's call to allow more time for an alternative jobs solution to be found for workers.

Talk Talk has been criticised in recent days by the Taoiseach and the Jobs Minister for the way it handled the announcement.

Minister Gilmore - who was speaking earlier at the opening of The Mounttown Community Facility Centre in Dun Laoghaire - also criticised the company.

"Clearly announcement this week was a huge blow to Waterford," he said.

"The manner in which the announcement was made was… unacceptable."
