Celtic Son to return at Aintree

Celtic Son is set to return to action at Aintree next week after being banned from racing for 40 days.

Trainer Martin Pipe has several options for the six-year-old whose suspension ends on Saturday.

Pipe was fined and jockey Jamie Moore banned for 21 days by the Jockey Club’s disciplinary panel over the running and riding of Celtic Son at Exeter last October.

Said Pipe: “He will have several entries at Aintree and the plan is to run although we will decide which race nearer the time. He’s had a nice break and seems as fresh and well as ever.”

After being beaten at Newbury on his first start following his controversial Exeter display, Celtic Son won five of his next six starts when upped in distance.

The gelding, owned by David Johnson, could not run at the Cheltenham Festival because of his ban.
