Colin Healy is poised to turn down Mick McCarthy’s invitation to join the Irish World Cup squad as a guest.
The Cork-born Celtic midfielder was called up to the squad last night when it looked like Roy Keane was out of the World Cup.
But when Keane withdrew his threat, Healy’s chance of playing came to nothing.
He will head east instead of west tomorrow continuing with his plans for a holiday with his girlfriend in Lanzarote.
Healy, 22, told the Evening Echo: "If I went out to Japan now, and it’s a long way to go to watch a football match, I would be going out there as the 24th man.
"I am not so sure I want to get caught up in all that at this late stage."
"I have a two-week holiday booked with my girlfriend and we are off to Lanzarote tomorrow morning," Healy said from his parent's home in Ballincollig, Co Cork.
He continued: "Mick McCarthy has always said that he would go with the players that qualified us for the World Cup finals. That he would go with his tried and trusted players and that’s understandable enough even though it was a bit of a blow to me not to make the original squad."
