Seven men have been arrested after gardai made a firearms seizure in Dundalk today.

Members of the Garda Technical team are continuing to search a house in the town as part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of dissident Republicans.

The substantial garda raid involved members of the Emergency Response Unit and it is believed to have recovered balaclavas and some ammunition as well as a shotgun and a handgun.

The seven men are all being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in Garda stations in Dundalk, Navan, Balbriggan and Ashbourne.

Garda forensics experts will carry out tests on the weapons to establish if they have been used in any crimes carried out in the area.
