Six men were seized today as a major undercover police operation foiled an armed robbery in the North.

Up to five police cars swooped on the gang as an attempt was made to raid a security van outside a bank in Antrim.

A man working in a near-by shop said: “It was like something out of Miami Vice.”

It is believed police had been acting on a tip-off and had staked out the area before moving in.

A spokeswoman said no one was injured during the operation.

A gun was recovered at the scene, she added.
