Workers attached to ESB power stations are meeting today to discuss possible strike action over the alleged dismissal of one of the company's worker directors.

Joe LaCumbre, who is also ESB deputy chairman, has claimed that he was effectively sacked as part of a row over the company's pension deficit.

Around 1,000 electricians and ancillary staff decided last week to take whatever action was necessary to support Mr LaCumbre and a further 250 TEEU members are due to meet today to discuss whether to join the the protest.

Union sources have said rolling strikes are likely at certain locations unless Mr LaCumbre is reinstated at the next ESB board meeting on February 22.
